Getting In Touch with Nature

Looking to become David Attenborough while on vacation? The Cocoa Beach area has plenty of nature to be discovered and enjoyed! From Merritt Island to the world-famous Indian River Lagoon Preserve State Park, adventure awaits!

Start your nature adventure at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge! With over 140,00 acres, Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge is an outdoor paradise. The refuge offers wildlife drives and hikes into the park where you can catch glimpses of manatees, alligators, bobcats and more!

If you’re looking to seas the day, the Canaveral National Seashore is just the place for you. As one of the country’s longest stretches of coastline, you’ll be sure to find breathtaking waterfront scenes and cross paths with 15 different species of threatened or endangered animals, including several types of turtles and the West Indian Manatee.

For those looking to hang ten or catch the big one, Sebastian Inlet State Park has world-class surfing and fishing available to the public. Dive right in with snorkeling and scuba opportunities as well so that you can get even closer to nature!

Perhaps the best-known wildlife area in the area is Indian River Lagoon Preserve State Park. Home to one of the most biologically diverse estuaries in North America, the park serves to protect both the Indian River Lagoon and the smaller Banana River Lagoon. The park is home to unique animals and plant life. While currently open, the park is experiencing extensive restoration in order to remove pests and reintroduce species.
